Hi, I'm Samantha. I look for inspiration in strange places. I love to put together funky, odd, and colorful outfits, though sometimes my style can drift back to classic. This blog is for anyone who looks at the people around them and sees nothing but sweatpants and fleece, people who strive to stand out. This blog is also for girls who dare to be themselves, no matter what that entails.
I like a lot of weird stuff. If you're looking for style inspired by last night's episode of Gossip Girl or Glee or if you want to see how I incorporate a pair of Abercrombie and Fitch jeans into an outfit, this is not the blog for you. However, if you like to look different from everyone else, if you like fashion inspired by artsy and funny movies, cartoons, video games, musicals, and (international) celeb and "real-life" quirky girls, sit back and relax.
I also hope you'll share your style with us, and I look forward to reading your comments.
Now then, to give you all a start on where I come from style-wise:- One of my big style icons is Yuki Isoya, one of Japan's most popular female vocalists, now a solo act but formerly of 90's band Judy and Mary. To me, she is one of the quintessential "quirky girls." I mean, just look at that skirt. It's so colorful and poofy! Yuki, the ultimate female rock star, uses the stage, an "anything-goes" environment, as an outlet to wear whatever she wants.
- I am currently obsessed with wearing scarves and bandannas...as headwraps and headbands. They look great with almost anything. It's hard to force myself to not wear one every day. I'm a theatre student, and our costume shop has so many silk and nylon scarves. I was in heaven looking through them!
- I love leggings and legwarmers. However, I firmly believe that leggings are not pants and that you shouldn't wear them without a skirt or a shirt that completely covers your rear. No one wants to see that. As for legwarmers, I prefer my mom's vintage ones to the pairs I bought this winter at Wet Seal. They are falling apart, and my mom's, while a little loose, overall bunch up very nicely.
- I like bold lipstick, and I've been experimenting with makeup lately. Just because no one else is wearing fun colors doesn't mean you shouldn't.
- I want the headpieces from the movie Black Swan. They have got to be the coolest things I have ever seen. I found some similar ones on Etsy, but they are WAY too expensive. I wonder if I could make them myself. I might try.
- This spring, I'm most excited for...dresses! I'm looking forward to wearing a floral or patterned dress with a head scarf and sneakers (hopefully Converse, though my feet are so small I may have to buy kids'). This winter, my style has been super funky, and while I don't plan to completely throw that out, I also want to try some soft, feminine ensembles.
I'm off to class. Philosophy :(. But let me know how you stay quirky, and for more off-the-wall fun, be sure to log in again soon!
Love,
Samantha
